Typical Tasks


• Installs or repairs electrical wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
• Plans the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures according to blueprints and local electrical codes.
• Inspects systems and electrical parts to detect hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair.
• Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, using testing devices such as an ohmmeter and voltmeter.
• Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools.
• Prepares diagrams of the location of wiring and position of equipment.
• Works from ladders and scaffolding to install or repair wiring overhead.
• Constructs and fabricates parts, using hand tools and specifications.
